Fleas are brown in color and about 1/16 of an inch long. A female flea will generally lay four to eight eggs after each meal — possibly more than 400 over a lifetime. These eggs will readily fall from the pet to the ground, which can give rise to a flea infestation after the pest has gone.
Larvae will make their way into carpets or in cracks and remain from five days to three weeks to mature. The larvae then spin a cocoon in which they will develop over a period ranging from a week to four months or more. While in the cocoon they are protected from pesticides. A disturbance such as pressure, heat or noise will trigger the emergence of the flea from this cocoon. This is why a flea infestation may seem to come out of nowhere as when the family returns from vacation. It isn't just what you see since typically, a flea population is five percent adults, 10 percent pupae, 35 percent larvae and 50 percent eggs.

Luckily, most tick bites are harmless, but they can transmit Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Tick Paralysis and other illnesses.
Ticks normally live in woodlands but if your home is near a field or forest there may be ticks nearby. Brown Dog ticks are known to infest a home. they hide in cracks, behind baseboards and other places close to the floor.
Staying away from wooded areas or wearing long sleeves and long pants will help to avoid ticks on the person. Tick repellent will also help. Check yourself and your dog when you return from wooded areas. If you have been bitten by a tick, carefully remove the tick by using a pair of tweezers and grabbing the tick as close to the skin as possible. Do not twist the tick; pull it straight out taking care not to crush it. Avoid touching the tick with bare hands. Treat the spot with a disinfectant. Save the tick in a container of rubbing alcohol or in a ziploc bag with some grass blades for identification should any complications arise.
